Testimonials
Show testimonials as a grid, masonry, carousel or continuous marquee, in four skins or a design of your own.
NovaKit Testimonials separates three decisions that most widgets tangle together: where the quotes come from, how one looks, and how they are arranged. Each is independent, so any source works with any skin in any container.
Where the quotes come from #
| Manual | Typed into this widget. Fine for three quotes that appear once. |
| Testimonials (CPT) | From the Testimonials post type, reusable across the whole site. |
Use the post type if the quotes appear more than once. Manual items live inside one widget, so the same testimonial on your homepage and your about page is two copies to keep in step. As a post type it is one record, edited once.
With the post type selected you also get Number of Testimonials, Category, and ordering — by date, title, manual order or random. Manual order follows the drag order on the Testimonials screen.
The four skins #
| Skin | Emphasises |
|---|---|
| Card | A bordered card. The neutral default. |
| Quote | The words, with a large quotation mark. Best for one strong testimonial. |
| Portrait | The person — a prominent photo. |
| Review | The rating, star row first. For product feedback. |
| Custom Template | A Testimonial block you designed. |
The four arrangements #
| Container | Behaves |
|---|---|
| Grid | Equal columns and rows. Predictable; needs quotes of similar length. |
| Masonry | Columns of uneven heights, no gaps. Right when quote lengths vary a lot. |
| Carousel | One screen at a time, with arrows or dots. Fits many quotes in little space. |
| Marquee | Scrolls continuously, never stopping. A wall of social proof. |
The marquee, specifically
The marquee has its own controls, and they are the ones people get wrong:
| Setting | Default | Accepts |
|---|---|---|
| Direction | — | Horizontal or vertical |
| Lanes | — | How many rows or columns scroll at once |
| Card Width | — | Each card’s width in the moving track |
| Speed | — | Seconds for one full loop — higher is slower |
| Height | — | The visible area, for a vertical marquee |
| Pause on Hover | On | On or off |
| Fade Edges | — | Softens both ends so cards do not appear to be cut off |
Speed is seconds per loop, not a speed. A bigger number is slower. It is also relative to how many cards you have — add more and the same number moves faster, because the track has further to travel in the same time. Set it last, once the quotes are in.
Leave Pause on Hover on. Text moving under the pointer cannot be read or selected, and a testimonial nobody can finish reading is not doing its job.
What a testimonial holds #
Each one carries a quote, an author name, their role or company, a photo and a rating. The skin decides which of those it shows and how prominently — the Review skin leads with the rating, the Portrait skin with the photo — so filling all the fields in gives you freedom to change skin later.
A missing photo is not a broken layout. Skins that show one fall back gracefully when it is absent, so a quote without a headshot still sits correctly beside ones that have them.
